Spring is here, and as we roll toward summer, I cannot help but think about getting back on the water, chasing great-eating fish and taking in sunrise and sunset views with friends.
On my last Florida trip, we headed 50 to 60 miles offshore into the Atlantic with an excellent captain. After about four hours of fishing, a buddy and I landed around ten fish.
One of the best parts of fishing in Florida is what comes afterward. Many charter spots are near restaurants that will prepare your catch exactly how you want it. Fresh does not get better than that. From tuna to dolphin fish (mahi-mahi), the food is incredible, and the whole experience creates the kind of memory that sticks with you.
Fort Lauderdale recommendations
These were the charter services and restaurants that stood out on the trip:
- Fishing charter
Taco Hooked Up Fishing Charters - Fishing charter
Good Hit Sportfishing - Restaurant
Coconuts - Restaurant
15th Street Fisheries
What I would plan before going
Ask the captain what is in season, how far offshore the boat expects to run, and what is included in the rate. Bring sun protection, motion-sickness supplies if you need them, and a cooler plan for any fish you do not have cooked nearby.
I am already looking forward to the next trip. If you make it down there, tell us where you went and how it was.
